Central bank says Meta shareholders may face criminal risks

MOSCOW, Nov 11 (PRIME) -- Russian owners of shares of U.S. company Meta, which the country deems an extremist organization, may face criminal risks after their status is clarified, Central Bank First Deputy Chairman Vladimir Chistyukhin told reporters on Friday.

“The way I see it is that criminal risks may threaten after the legal status of the shareholders is clarified,” Chistyukhin said on the sidelines of the Finopolis forum.

“We should decide on step number one whether we will view Meta shares as extremist investment or not. If so, certain restrictions will probably take place,” he said adding that it is the matter not only for the central bank.

St.-Petersburg-based SPB Exchange will suspend trading in Meta stocks from November 14 because the company’s operations are banned by court.
